First of all, soak chana dal for about 1 hour and keep aside.
Peel and cut the bottle gourd or lauki into small pieces. Keep it ready.
Heat oil in a cooker, add dry red chili and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
To this add chopped onion. Fry them till onion changes color to golden brown.
Now add chopped tomatoes. Cook them till tomato turned mushy.
Add all dry spices like turmeric powder, kitchen king powder, red chili powder, asafoetida and ginger-garlic paste. Mix well and cook for 1-2 min.
Now mix chana dal and lauki. Mix well, add 1.5 cups of water and close the cooker lid. Let it cook for 4-5 whistle.
Let it releases the pressure.Lauki chana dal is ready to serve with roti or paratha or rice. Garnish with chopped green coriander while serving.
