    Sabudana khichdi is the most favorite and popular recipe for any fasting days. But this is a staple dish to make especially in Navratri fasting. This khichdi is vegan and gluten-free Indian snack. Sabudana khichdi is also is a popular Maharashtrian breakfast item.

    Sabudana is known as sago or tapioca pearls. There are many varieties available (small, medium and big pearls) in terms of pearl's size. Which decides how long sabudana should be soaked. I am using medium sized sabudana or tapioca pearl which takes around 4 hours soaking time.Sabudana khichdi is the most favorite and popular recipe for any fasting days. But this is a staple dish to make especially in Navratri fasting. This khichdi is vegan and gluten-free Indian snack. Sabudana khichdi is also is a popular Maharashtrian breakfast item.

    This vrat ki sabudana khichdi is very easy to make at home with boiled potato, peanut, green coriander, curry leaves, lemon juice, green chilies and cumin seed. Though you can add vegetables like pea, carrot, cauliflower but basic ingredients always remain the same. It is also a great dish while you are trying to lose weight as sabudana khichdi is low in calories and nutritious.

    Vrat Ki Sabudana Khichdi Recipe

    Ingredient                                                                             4 Serving

    1 Cup Sabudana or Sago or Tapioca
    2 Medium sized potato boiled
    ½ Cup peanut roasted
    ½ teaspoon mustard seed (replace cumin seeds if required)
    2 Green chilies chopped finely (optional)
    Sendha namak (fasting salt)
    1 teaspoon sugar
    2 Tblsp lemon juice
    Handful chopped green coriander
    2 teaspoon ghee or clarified butter (replace with oil)

    Method

    1. First of all soak sabudana or tapioca pearls for 4 hours. Add water just 5 mm more water of the sabudana level in the pan.
    2. Dry roast peanut and rub their skin. It is completely optional as peanut taste great does not matter which way you add. Crush them coarsely and keep aside.
    3. After soaking time over drain the water and keep sabudana ready.
    4. Heat ghee in a kadhai on medium flame. To this add mustard seeds, cut green chilies, and curry leaves.
    5. Once mustard seeds start crackling add boiled potato and saute well for 1 min.
    6. Now add crushed peanut, lemon juice, and sugar. Mix well.
    7. Finally, add soaked sabudana and mix nicely. Adjust salt as per taste. Cover the lid and cook on low flame for 3-4 minutes.
    8. Garnish with chopped green coriander and serve this delicious sabudana khichdi. A great dish for normal days and during fasting.

    Note

    1. If you are cooking sabudana khichdi in normal days then add vegetables like peas, carrot, and cauliflower. It tastes amazing.
    2. If mustard seeds are not allowed during fasting then replace it with cumin seeds.
    3. While soaking adds water 5 mm more to the level of sabudana in the bowl.
