    Vrat ki papdi chaat is a crunchy and deep-fried snack made with kuttu flour or buckwheat flour which is eaten during fasting or vrat.

    This is a gluten-free snack and I am sharing a baked version, so healthy as well.

    Vrat ki papdi is again a different style of eating to break the monotony of traditional fasting food.

    Why you will love this recipe

    kuttu papdi chat is a tangy, savory snack with tamarind chutney, green chutney, and curd.

    Sprinkled cumin seed powder and red chili powder (if allowed in fasting) and served at room temperature.

    As the name says vrat ki papdi means the flour used in making papdis are kuttu(buckwheat flour) or rajgira flour (Amarnath flour) or singhada flour(water chestnut flour).

    These flours are allowed to eat during fasting days. This time I created a Navratri meal plan with many farali recipes that can be enjoyed with the whole family without fuss.

    Ingredients

    These papdis are very easy to make with few ingredients.

    For Making Papdis

    • Flour- Buckwheat flour is used to make this recipe
    • Spices- rock salt, cumin seed powder, dry ginger powder
    • Other ingredients- water to knead the dough, oil to add in flour

    For Assembling vrat ki papdi chaat

    • Thick curd- Whisk curd with little water to make a smooth consistency. Check homemade yogurt.
    • Boiled potatoes- Boil potatoes work for toppings and extra deliciousness.
    • Tamarind & Date chutney
    • Green coriander chutney
    • Cumin seed powder
    • Handful pomegranate pearls- Garnish this yummy chaat with pomegranate.
    • Handful dry roasted peanut- Add extra crunch on top
    • Rock salt as per taste

    How to make kuttu ki papdi chaat

    To make vrat ki papdi chat first make papdis. Cut the small circles from the kneaded dough and baked at 350F for 15 minutes.

    Flip them in midway. Let them cool down and garnish with boiled potatoes, curd, chutneys and pomegranate seeds. So let see how to make vrat ki papdi chat or baked buckwheat savory crackers.

    1. First of all, keep vrat ki chutney ready beforehand.
    2. Boil potatoes and chop them into small pieces. Keep this ready too.
    3. Now prepare for making vrat ki papdi. In a mixing bowl gather all ingredients listed under for papdi. Knead a soft dough using water. It will take approximately ½ cup and 2 teaspoon of water.
    4. keep it aside for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 350F.
    5. Divide the dough into two equal parts after 15 minutes of resting.Vrat ki papdi chat is a crunchy and deep fried snack which is eaten during fasting or vrat. This is a vegan and gluten-free snack too.Vrat ki papdi chat is a tangy, savory snack with tamarind chutney, green chutney, and curd.
    6. Dust the rolling surface and roll it in a big circle and cut the small circles with the help of a cookie cutter.Vrat ki papdi chat is a crunchy and deep fried snack which is eaten during fasting or vrat. This is a vegan and gluten-free snack too.Vrat ki papdi chat is a tangy, savory snack with tamarind chutney, green chutney, and curd.
    7. Grease a cookies sheet and place these small circles carefully. Bake these for 15 minutes. Flip them in midway.
    8. Take them out after 15 minutes and let them cool down.
    9. Assembly of vrat ki papdi chat- gather all ingredients at one place to make a chat.
    10. On a plate arrange 6-8 papdis. Place 1 teaspoon chopped boil potatoes.
    11. Pour beaten curd on every papdi. Add tamarind chutney & coriander chutney as per requirement.
    12. Sprinkle cumin seed powder, rock salt, and red chili powder. Garnish with roasted peanuts and pomegranate pearls.
    13. Serve this vrat ki papdi chat and enjoy your vrat (fast) with kids and the whole family.Vrat ki papdi chat is a crunchy and deep fried snack which is eaten during fasting or vrat.     Serving suggestions

    This is a complete meal in itself. But you can also enjoy it in snack time or an appetizer during fasting meal.

    Storing sugestions

    You can make papdis in advance and can store up to 15 days in air tight container.

    • Room Temperature- These are good at room temperature for 15 days.
    • Refrigerator- Storing in fridge does not work as they become soggy.
    • Freezer- NO

    Tips & FAQ's

    1. Feel free to use rajgira flour or singhada flour to make papdis.
    2. Please consult your elders before trying on fasting days. Just in case if any ingredient is prohibited at your place.
    3. You can make this papdis beforehand too. Normal days also they make a great snack with tea.
    4. To make chat use any vegan curd and it will make a delicious vegan chat recipe.
    Can I any other flour to make papdis?

    You can use rajgira flour and water chestnut flour as well to make these papdis. However I, myself have not tried yet.

    Ingredients

    For Making Papdis

    • ½ teaspoon rock salt
    • 1 teaspoon cumin seed powder

    • 2 Medium sized boiled potatoes chopped
    • Vrat ki chutney
    • Cumin seed powder
    • Handful pomegranate pearls
    • Handful dry roasted peanut
    • Rock salt as per taste
