Strawberry Mango Salsa, perfect fruit salad with chips

In summer, when mango and strawberry both are easily available, I am all set to enjoy my strawberry lassi, mango lassi, mango cake, mango raita, and fruit salsas. Normally I try to make simple salsa with only one fruit at a time like mango salsa or strawberry salsa or pineapple salsa.

My kids really enjoy such easy homemade salsa with chips. This time I tried to combine two fruits (mango and strawberry) together and made this easy homemade fruit salsa. This quick salsa was hit at home.

Why you will love this recipe

Mango & strawberry both are abundantly available in the summertime and favorite fruits. Both taste amazingly great together.

This get ready in just 10 minutes.

    Its a vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free.

A perfect appetizer for weeknight dinner, or goes well as a snack.

    What is Salsa?

"Salsa" is a Spanish word for "Sauce", and it can be either cooked or a fresh mixture of ingredients. Simple homemade salsa ingredients are tomato, bell peppers, jalapeno, lemon juice, red onion, and herbs like green coriander, mint, or basil.

You can make Salsa using fruits or vegetables like corn and beans. Read more about salsa here.

    Ingredients

Mango & strawberry are the two main ingredients you require to make this easy salsa at home. In case of unavailability just double the quantity of the fruit which is available.

NOTE- Refer the recipe card for measurements.

    • Fruits- Mango & Strawberry are the star ingredients of this homemade fresh salsa.
    • Onion- I prefer using red onion for salsa. I tried other onion but did not like the taste. So using red onion is preferred and recommended. Eliminate if not available.
    • Flavors- Jalapeno, a pinch of salt & lemon juice. All three balances the sweetness of fruits and create a flavorful salsa.
    • Garnishing- finely chopped green coriander. If you do not like coriander feel free to remove but recommended.
all ingredients of mango strawberry salsa are kept over wooden board.
Ingredients used to make homemade flavorful salsa

This fresh fruit salsa is a perfect side dish to serve on BBQ parties with tofu or paneer(cottage cheese), Cinco De Mayo celebration, or accompany it with any Mexican meal.

Normally it is a great side dish with grilled items like fish or chicken or salmon. Being vegetarian I enjoy it with tacos and chips.

How to make strawberry mango salsa

Making fruit salsa at home is very easy. Just gather all six ingredients mango, strawberry, lemon juice, red onion, jalapeno, and coriander to start with.

    1. Add all the ingredients mango cubes, strawberries pieces, chopped red onion, jalapeno, and coriander leaves in a bowl.
    2. Squeeze lemon juice. Mix well.
    3. Serve this homemade fruit salsa with chips immediately.

    Serving suggestions

This easy homemade salsa recipe is a perfect dip for chips OR a great topping over tacos. I do eat it with my carom seed flatbread (ajwain paratha).

    • Serve this sweet and spicy homemade salsa with tortilla chips. In case to make it a sweeter delicacy, serve it with cinnamon tortilla chips.
    • This salsa makes a perfect side dish with teriyaki tofu or with honey glazed tofu recipe.
    • Sprinkle over your tacos or just enjoy this homemade fruit salsa as is.

    Variations

Salsa is a versatile recipe. Feel free to add below fruits as per the availability.

    • Avocado: Adding avocado makes a great strawberry-mango avocado salsa.
    • Fruit: Feel free to add a variety of fruits like Peach, Pineapple & Kiwi. They make another flavorful homemade salsa recipe.
    • Tomato: you can add ¼ cup tomato as well. I did not add as wanted a sweeter version of salsa.

    Storing suggestions

Homemade salsa is easy and quick recipe to make at home. You can just combine everything and store in the fridge.

    • Refrigerate - Combine all the ingredients together and store in the fridge. Do not add lemon juice while keeping in the fridge. You can add just before serving.
    • Freeze- I do not recommend freezing this mixture, as it tastes best while prepared fresh.

    Tips & FAQ's

I am sharing a few tips here about how you can make your own salsa in the best possible way. Fresh homemade salsa is always great to snack on.

    • Use ripe fruits - To get the best flavors you must use best ripe mangoes and strawberry.
    • Salsa Seasoning- Do not forget to add lemon juice. And adjust the spiciness as per taste. Feel free to remove jalapeno if required.
    • Feel free to add any additional fruits like pineapple, kiwi or avocado.
    • Allow salsa sitting for few minutes before serving- Mix thoroughly and keep aside for few minutes. It will make this salsa more juicier and lip-smacking.
Can you use canned mango cubes?

You can use, but personally I have not tried. But at the same time I don't see why it won't work.

    Can we freeze?

You can freeze but it is not recommended. As after coming at room temperature fruit will not be firm and will not taste great. It is better to make fresh.
