Mooli Raita Recipe (Radish Raita)
Mooli raita or Radish Raita is crunchy yogurt raita made with grated mooli, greek yogurt. A little spicy aromatic tempering added to enhance the flavors. It is one of the creamy and finger-licking dahi preparation which goes well with one-pot meals & parathas.
It is very quick to make, and one of the BEST mooli recipe to prepare. Here is how to make it.

For Raita
- Greek yogurt– I am using greek yogurt for this raita recipe. Feel free to use homemade curd as well. You will not be required to add water in that case.
- Mooli(radish)– Soft & tender grated radish is being used.
- Water– Since using greek yogurt, I added a little water to thin down. For homemade curd, you can skip adding this water quantity.
- Cumin powder– Roasted cumin powder gives a nice aroma and nutty texture. Do not skip it.
- Salt– Adjust salt as per taste.
For Tempering
- Oil
- Dry red chilies
- Cumin seeds
- Mustard seeds
- Curry leaves
How to make mooli ka raita
This is one of the simple, easy and quick raita preparation. Let see how to make mooli raita step by step.
Prepare Mooli Raita
First of all, take a mixing bowl and add greek yogurt & water.
Whisk it till fine smooth consistency.
Clean, peel, and wash mooli. Grate it and squeeze extra water content. Add grated mooli, salt, and roasted cumin powder to the whisked yogurt.
Mix well and adjust salt as per taste.
Prepare Tempering
Heat oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds, dry red chilies, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Keep stirring and cook for 2 minutes.
Add it to the raita. Mix well and chill for 30 minutes. Serve chilled.
I skipped adding green chilies as my kids do not like it. You can add 1 tsp finely chopped green chili to this raita.
Serving suggestions
Peas pulao, mooli paratha, carrot paratha, moong dal khichdi are some of the dishes which go well with mooli raita.
It makes a perfect snack as well. Chill it for 30 minutes before serving.
Storing suggestions
Radish raita tastes BEST when prepared fresh. Having said that you can store any leftover raita in a container and keep it in the fridge for 24 hours.
Variations
Vegetable raitas are very versatile, you can make a variety of raita with adding a variety of vegetables.
Replace radish with carrot, cucumber, onion, capsicum, beetroot to prepare different raita. The rest of the recipe will remain the same.
Tips
- This raita tastes best when using fresh, soft, and tender radishes due to their sweet smell and nice taste.
- You can make it ahead of time and store it in the fridge. However, do not add salt while storing, add just before serving. Else radish will leave water content and raita will become too watery.
- I am using greek yogurt and used 1/4 cup of water to thin down. If using homemade curd then first add grated mooli and then adjust the consistency by adding extra water.
- This muli raita is South Indian Style raita, adding tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, & dry red chilies. You can skip this tempering, garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy it as is.
- I have tried it with Indian radish and daikon to make this raita. Feel free to use red radish as well.
