    Kuttu ka Dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.

    These yummy buckwheat flour dumplings are tangy, gluten-free, and lip-smacking snacks on fasting days.

    Kuttu ka Dahi Vada (buckwheat flour dumplings in spicy tangy curd) is consumed during fasting days especially Navratri fasting days.

    Buckwheat flour is popularly eaten in North India during fasting days. Kuttu cutlet, kuttu ka cheela, kuttu ki poori, kuttu ki papdi chat are other fasting recipes that can be prepared easily.

    Kuttu four or buckwheat flour is consumed on fasting days especially like Ekadshi, Navratri Festival, & Shivratri.

    Buckwheat flour is very healthy and these dumplings can be prepared anytime during the year.

    This Dahi vada is so delicious, mildly spicy, tangy with chutneys like tamarind chutney or you can add green coriander chutney as well. Use homemade curd for the BEST taste.

    Ingredients

    Normally kuttu dahi vada preparation is very easy and you can make anytime quickly.

    To make dumplings

    • Flour- Buckwheat flour is the star ingredient of this recipe.
    • Spices- Rock salt as per salt, cumin seed powder
    • Dry fruits- Melon seeds and almond slices are used for extra crunch and flavors.
    • Curd or Yogurt- This helps dumplings to give spongy texture. NOTE- baking soda is not generally allowed to use in fasting. So use curd to make them fluffy and spongy.
    • Other ingredients- Water to make the batter

    To serve as a chaat

    • Beaten Curd or yogurt chilled (check homemade yogurt)
    • Imli ki chutney
    • Green chutney for chaat
    • Cumin seed powder
    • Chopped green coriander
    • Rock salt
    • Pomegranate seed for garnishing

    How to make kuttu ka dahi bhalla

    Step 1- Making dumplings

    Take a mixing bowl and add all the ingredients. Make a smooth batter.

    Heat oil in a pan. Make small dumplings and deep fry them on medium flame. Fry them till golden in color.

    Transfer them on a kitchen towel so that extra oil will get absorbed.Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.

    Step 2- Soaking dumplings

    In a bowl take 2 glass of water and dissolve 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon sugar. Keep it ready.

    Soak all fried dumplings in the water for 1 hour.Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.

    Step 3- Making chaat

    After an hour squeezes the dumpling and arrange it in a serving plate.Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.

     Generously pour curd over them, add vrat ki chutneys and cumin seed powder. Adjust salt as per taste.

    Serve these kuttu ka dahi Bhalla on your fasting days and enjoy with family.

    Serving suggestions

    These buckwheat dumplings chaat is a meal in itself. You can serve them as a complete meal or as an appetizer to start your fasting meal.

    Add beaten curd generously with chutney and you are all set to taste the best Indian vrat ki chaat.

    Storing suggestions

    You can make buckwheat dumpling ahead of the time. and keep in a glass container for 3-4 days easily.

    Just microwave them for a minute and served with all chaat items.

    • Room temperature- These dumplings are good at room temperature for a day.
    • Refrigerator- Store in a glass container and keep in the fridge for 3-4 days. Warming up for a min in microwave is enough to serve them.
    • Freezer- We can store in the freezer for a week. But I, myself not tried it yet.

    Buckwheat dumplings taste BEST when served on the same day.

    Tips & FAQ's

    1. You can use rajgira or singhada flour to make these dumplings, but I have not tried so I can not say how they will come.
    2. Please consult your elders before trying on fasting days. Just in case if any ingredient is prohibited at your place.
