Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander. Kuttu ka dahi vada(buckwheat flour dumplings in spicy tangy curd) is consumed during fasting days specially Navratri fasting days. Buckwheat flour is popularly eaten in North India during fasting days. Kuttu cutlet, kuttu ka cheela, kuttu ki poori, kuttu ki papdi chat are other fasting recipes which can be prepared easily.

It is a gluten-free flour so potato, arbi (colocasia) or tapioca flour is used to bind. Buckwheat flour is very nutritious and healthy. Vrat ka dahi vada is very easy to make, just prepare the batter, deep fry dumplings and garnish with curd and vrat ki chutneys. So let see how to make vrat ka dahi vada or kuttu ka dahi Bhalla.Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.

Kuttu Ka Dahi Bhalla | Vrat Ka Dahi Vada

Ingredient                                                                   2 Serving

For Dumplings
1/2 Cup kuttu ka atta (buckwheat flour)
1/4 Tsp cumin seed powder
Sendha namak (rock salt as per taste)
1 Tblsp magaj or melon seeds
1 Tblsp sliced almonds
2 Tblsp curd
1/2 Cup water

For Making Chat
1 Cup beat curd
Vrat ki chutneys
1 Tsp cumin seed powder
1 Tblsp green coriander chopped finely
Sendha namak as per taste
Pomegranate seed for garnishing

Method

  1. Take a mixing bowl and add all the ingredient. Make a smooth batter.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Make small dumpling and deep fry them on medium flame. Fry them till golden in color.
  3. Transfer them on a kitchen towel so that extra oil will get absorbed.Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.
  4. In a bowl take 2 glass of water and dissolve 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp sugar. Keep it ready.
  5. Soak all fried dumplings in the water for 1 hour.Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.
  6. After an hour squeeze the dumpling and arrange in a serving plate.Kuttu ka dahi Bhalla or vrat ka dahi vada made with buckwheat flour and then combined with beaten curd/yogurt, vrat ki chutney, cumin seed powder, and green coriander.
  7.  Generously pour curd over them, add vrat ki chutneys and cumin seed powder. Adjust salt as per taste.
  8. Serve these kuttu ka dahi Bhalla on your fasting days and enjoy with family.

I made this kuttu ka dahi Bhalla for dinner as per my Navratri meal plan. This recipe going to be the part of Navratri recipes collection which you can refer as required. farali dahi vada is served as a dinner on Navratri meal plan day 6.

Note

  1. You can use rajgira or singhada flour to make these dumplings, but I have not tried so can not say how they will come.
  2. Please consult your elders before trying on fasting days. Just in case if any ingredient is prohibited at your place.

    I have made another version of this kuttu ka dahi balla made in appe pan with a slightly different set of ingredients,. This one looks super inviting and I can already imagine how delicious it must have tasted!
