Do you wonder why it is called pumpkin spice where there is no pumpkin in the spice mix?

That is because the "spice mix" is the main ingredient while making Pumpkin Pies in the fall season. The warmth and aroma in pies come from this pumpkin spice blend.

Why you will love this recipe

The pumpkin spice mix recipe is a combination of basic warm spices including, cinnamon, ginger, clove, allspice, and nutmeg. Since allspice is not easily available, you can replace it with a ground clove or completely eliminate it.

This DIY pumpkin pie spice recipe is prepared with four common ground spices. It is easy to make, takes less than five minutes, and homemade with full of fresh flavors. Use it to make baked goods or desserts.

Learn here how to make your own pumpkin spice for the upcoming fall & holiday baking, with only four ingredients.

    Ingredients

Please check RECIPE CARD for detailed ingredients list with accurate measurement.

all four ground spices in a plate before mixing them.

This homemade pumpkin spice mix is made with four basic ground spices

    • Cinnamon
    • Nutmeg
    • Ginger
    • Clove

Traditionally there is 5th ground spice, allspice. As per Wikipedia "Allspice is the dried fruit of the Pimenta dioica plant. The fruits are picked when green and unripe and are traditionally dried in the sun. When dry they are brown and resemble large, smooth peppercorns. Fresh leaves are similar in texture to bay leaves and similarly used in cooking."

Allspice is not easily available and not a popular spice, I tried making it with commonly available spices. If you have access to allspice then add 1.5 teaspoon allspice in this recipe to make authentic pumpkin spice.
