This homemade pumpkin spice mix is made with four basic ground spices

  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Ginger
  • Clove

Traditionally there is 5th ground spice, allspice. As per Wikipedia “Allspice is the dried fruit of the Pimenta dioica plant. The fruits are picked when green and unripe and are traditionally dried in the sun. When dry they are brown and resemble large, smooth peppercorns. Fresh leaves are similar in texture to bay leaves and similarly used in cooking.”

Allspice is not easily available and not a popular spice, I tried making it with commonly available spices. If you have access to allspice then add 1.5 tsp allspice in this recipe to make authentic pumpkin spice.
