This has been my favorite chat since my childhood. My father always took care that children should get nutritious food in all three meals every day. For that sometimes he used to enter to the kitchen saying “aaj mein banaunga breakfast bacchon ke liye Kusum tu ja rasoi se (Today I will cook breakfast for children Kusum, you go out of the kitchen)” and cooked for us. This is one of the breakfast item prepared by my father. Still, whenever he comes to my place I make sure that I prepare this moong dal chat and serve to him.

Note: This is a very sweet memory from my old blog. Its been 5-6 years I have not spoken to my father. There is something which can not be recovered. Not feeling like changing it. Those are blessed who have their parents whenever needed. Take care of them and love them unconditionally. Not all are lucky :(.Moong dal chat is a north Indian recipe, a very healthy, tasty, and nutritious snack. My husband too likes it -:) very much. Being so healthy, I do make it as a snack for my son when he comes back from school. My daughter does not like this as of now but eats while watching videos. You can check below for some recipes which are healthy and keep your weight maintained. Have them and enjoy without worry.

    1 Cup Moong Dal/Lentil
    1.5 Cup water
    salt as per taste

    For Garnishing
    1 Cup cucumber chopped
¼ Cup boiled potato chopped finely
2 Medium sized Tomato chopped finely
⅛ teaspoon Red chili powder (optional)
2 Green chili finely chopped (optional)
1 Medium sized onion chopped finely
    2 teaspoon Lemon Juice
2 Tblsp coriander leaves finely chopped

    For Tadka/Tempering
    1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
2 teaspoon Ghee/OilMoong dal chat is a north Indian recipe, a very healthy, tasty, and nutritious snack. Boiled moong dal mixed with chopped onion, tomatoes, cucumber, drizzle with lemon juice and sprinkling chat masala is all you need to prepare this snack in few minutes. This moong dal salad is packed with protein, calcium, and fiber.

    Method

    1. First of all soak lentils overnight or for at least 2 hours.
    2. Boil it with water and add salt to it as per taste. Dal should not be very soft cooked. It is good to boil it in a pan rather than in pressure cooker. Boil it for around 10 minutes, this will make lentils soft enough to make a chat.
    3. Drain all the water and cover it with the lid for another 5 minutes. Meantime prepare stuff for garnishing.
    4. Heat oil/ghee in a small vessel and add cumin seeds. When they start crackling take off the pot from gas.
    5. Serve lentil to a plate and spread this tadka (tempering) on it. Sprinkle red chili powder & chopped green chili on top of it.
    6. To this add chopped boiled potatoes, cucumber, and onion. Now add chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves.
    7. Finally, add lemon juice. Moong dal chat is ready to eat now :).

    Notes

    1. You can add chat masala powder as well. Adding spices gives a great taste but for breakfast, I prefer fewer spices.
    2. Take care while boiling dal. Moong dal gets mushy very fast.
    3. You can experiment with this snack by adding your favorite vegetables and raw mango.

Moong daal chat sounds fabulous ! So when the daal is boiled each grain should be separate ?
I am sure this chat would taste delicious besides being nutritious .
We make the same daal , boil till mushy , and then add the tadka and toppings . We serve it with poori or chapati .

Yes, dal is boiled up to that level, if boiled for long then it will become mushy.
